Today marks another significant milestone in Moviri’s innovation journey as we announce a $10 million funding round for Akamas, led by United Ventures. This investment represents more than capital – it validates our vision of transforming how enterprises optimize their mission-critical applications and cloud infrastructure through AI-driven automation.
The Genesis of Akamas: Envisioning the Shift from Manual Performance Tuning to Cloud-Scale Autonomous Optimization
Our journey with Akamas began with two of Moviri’s leading performance engineering professionals – Luca Forni and Stefano Doni. As seasoned professionals in enterprise IT optimization, they understood the challenges firsthand. Luca, who would become Akamas’ CEO, and Stefano, who would take the role of CTO, had spent years helping global enterprises tackle complex performance engineering challenges. Their experience designing and implementing performance optimization solutions for enterprise customers gave them clear insight into the limitations of manual tuning approaches.
Focusing on enterprise IT optimization, they witnessed the growing complexity of managing modern technology stacks. The convergence of cloud computing, containerization, and microservices created an unprecedented challenge: how to optimize thousands of configuration parameters while ensuring both performance and cost-efficiency.
This challenge wasn’t just technical – it was transforming how businesses operate. Luca and Stefano realized that manual approaches to optimization couldn’t scale to meet the demands of modern organizations. They understood that the solution required a fundamental rethinking of how optimization is performed.
From Internal Project to Independent Innovation
In 2019, we made the strategic decision to spin off Akamas as an independent company. This decision aligned perfectly with Moviri’s proven model of identifying critical enterprise challenges and developing category-defining solutions to address them.
What started as an internal project quickly evolved into a platform that uses advanced machine learning to automatically optimize IT stack configurations. Akamas emerged as a unique solution that could deliver unprecedented application performance, agility, reliability and cost savings.
United Ventures' Investment: Accelerating Global Growth
The partnership with United Ventures comes at the perfect moment in Akamas’ evolution. Having validated our technology with top enterprise customers and secured Akamas’ first seven-figure contract, the team is ready to accelerate global expansion.
This funding will fuel an ambitious expansion plan for Akamas. Akamas will open its first US office in Boston, expand its engineering and go-to-market teams and accelerate product development. Akamas will also be able to broaden its technology ecosystem by expanding integrations with leading cloud and observability providers.
The Moviri Innovation Model at Work
Akamas exemplifies our unique approach to innovation. Like ContentWise in digital experience and Cleafy in cybersecurity, Akamas emerged from our deep understanding of enterprise challenges and our commitment to developing AI-powered solutions with real business impact.
Our combination of consulting and product businesses continues to prove its value. By working closely with enterprise customers, we identify opportunities where breakthrough innovation can create superior value.
Our first success was Caplan, which was later acquired by BMC Software. We then launched ContentWise, now personalizing experiences for more than 100 million users worldwide, followed by Cleafy, which protects over 100 million banking users from financial fraud. Akamas represents the latest chapter in this story of innovation, poised to revolutionize cloud optimization globally.
What’s Next? Continuing Our Work with Akamas
Enterprise cloud spending continues to accelerate, with organizations struggling to balance performance and reliability with mounting cloud costs. The complexity of modern cloud environments makes manual optimization impossible at scale. This creates a clear opportunity for AI-driven approaches like the ones implemented by Akamas.
While no longer its sole owner, Moviri remains committed to Akamas’ success as a strategic investor. We will continue working closely with the team during this transition period and beyond. Our partnership will focus on joint go-to-market initiatives, particularly in enterprise accounts where Moviri’s consulting practice has strong relationships. As a technology partner and channel partner, we look forward to helping Akamas continue to expand its footprint in the market.
